Previously called Rezaieh, Orumieh is famous for its lake, which
is a milder version of the dead sea. People bathe there to reap
the benefits of its many minerals. The island in the middle of lake
is a haven for various migratory birds including pink flamingos.
Nearby you can visit the extraordinary village of Kandovan,
with its 'termite mound' houses. This site is reputed to be the
'garden of Eden' according to bible
experts. There is an excellent hotel called Bandar Sharaf Khaneh
Hotel on the shores of this lake, in a port town by the same name. |
