Qom hosts the holy temple of Hazrat-e-Masumeh with its shrine to
Fatima (the sister of the eighth Shi'ite Imam) making it the second
most sacred city in Iran.
It is also the centre for Shi'te scholars;
Imam Khomeini studied at the theological college here. Qom is also
renowned for its production of sohan a very rich sweet made of saffron,
butter, flour, and pistachios.
